PSA for the Hot Days of Summer

Remember the feets of the puppers during this heat wave. Even wood on the decks can become so very hot to hurt them.  So follow the instructions below and help out all our furiends. (I love that the spokesmodel is a pugger like Miss Stella Rose!!)

I've got lots of plans for the weekend: a business meeting, some homemade pretzels, and lots of gardening needing to be completed before everything starts coming in and I have to start canning.  I send you all big hugs and will see you on Monday!! ~Shelle, Milo, Dixie and Newbs

Benny -- Fight Like a Frenchie!!

Keep fighting, Benny!!  Please visit and show him, and his family, your love! Benny and Lily!

Benny

I had not had the opportunity to meet Benny and Lily and their family, nor read their blog before this week.  Blogville is such a HUGE place, filled with so many people, you often times do not get a chance to meet all the others unless you go on a world tour like Pip.  I found out through our lovely Blogville friends that Mr. Benny has the awful "C".

The "C" is horrible. We grrr at the "C". All we have to say is this: Whether the "C" be attacking our people or our furiends, the "C" is not welcome anymore.  We want the "C" to leave and, Mr. "C", don't let the screen door hit you on the butt on your way out.

But, back to Mr. Benny (btw he has the cutest face ever!!!).  He needs our help. It's very expensive to fight the "C". They have set up a GoFundMe to help with the cost. If you can give $1 or $1000, every little bit helps.

To show you every little bit adds up, in one day, Blogville has raised almost $5,000.  That is a LOT of green papers from our little community.

I am in awe of you....and I know Mr. Benny is in awe of you, too.

From our house to yours, Mr. Benny, put on your fighting gear, like we are... we are gonna help you fight the "C" starting right now!

Well, We Are Still Here... For Now...

Apparently the dreaded bad weather is going to hit TODAY and not last night as I thought. It would help if I watched the news or read things besides your blogs and the /aww and /dachshunds sections of Reddit every now and again.

So as I posted already for 'today', but I still wanted to post to say 'howdy', I will make this into a "Thankful Thursday" post.

A few things I am thankful for... no order... and I will probably forget a hundred things I could have posted...

Puddles' momma is doing kinda well after her hellbow surgery. I had the honor of meeting Miss Puddles, Miss Whitney and Mr. Albert, as well as their momma and her hellbow, last fall.  They are absolutely adorable!!! I am glad that she is feeling better!!  Now I am hoping that she might let herself heal before she starts commenting and posting a lot.

Play it safe, Mrs. Allison. We love reading your posts about how Puddles has gotten into yet another scrape.  Do what the doctor tells you... even if it does take a while for you to mend! We love you bunches... and that hellbow is not something to play around with!!!

Lorenza is posting again and commenting.  Miss Lorenza was one of my first friends, with Mr. Frankie.  In fact, I would only comment on Miss Lorenza's and Mr. Frankie's posts for my first year of blogging.  (I was a stalker).  Seeing posts from Lorenza and comments makes me very, very happy.

She is the most fashionable dachshund I know!! Her grandmother makes the most beautiful clothing for her to wear!! I am pretty sure she has more clothing than I do.

Lady is back with Marley!  I know he was pining for his momma, so it is great they are all together again, even if it is 1000 degrees in their country right now.

Marley and Newby both have great love for Miss Lily Belle.   She must be a pretty special girl to have the love of two such handsome suitors!!

I have several other things to say "Thank you" for... like the big super moon coming on June 22-23 so we can say "Hi and we Miss You" to Remington! And, and,.. gosh.. so much... but the skies are getting dark and the trees are blowing around.  I still don't know when it's supposed to hit, but as I spent a lot of money on my computer, I'd rather be safe, you know??? So I will power down my computer, turn on some NCIS and go snuggle up with my puppers.

But, one last thing, and one of the most important "Thank yous" I can say is to each of you readers and bloggers. You are amazing, loving, giving and awesome.  Your blogs make my heart happy, your comments make me laugh, and just knowing there are people like you in a troubled world makes me feel better.

Much love from Shelle, Milo, Newby and Dixie

Momma Said There'd Be Days Like This....

I've been sick.
It's not been fun.
I don't want to repeat it again.

On to other news, this is what my life has been like as seen through the love of another dachshund named Milo. (source) (Sorry about it being so wonky text like... If I felt better I'd spend time figuring out where I need to edit their html to fit mine... but I don't, so I won't... it's verbatim from the source, so you can go there for pretty :D)

A 500-pound lion named Bonedigger is best friends with Milo, a Dachshund. Bonedigger first met Milo and three other Dachshund puppies five years ago when he was just 4 weeks old.

The pups seemed to instinctively know that Bonnedigger was mildly disabled (he suffers from a metabolic bone disease), and they wanted to protect him, according to Joe Schreibvogel of the G.W. Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

"The dogs thought it was just a big puppy and have loved each other since," Joe told TODAY via email. "I also think they know the lion is not as normal as the rest.”

Milo especially looks after Bonedigger. He cleans Bonedigger's teeth and often imitates Bonedigger's roars. For his part Bonedigger gets very upset when his pride (or pack) is separated from him.

Social Interaction for My Pups

Oskar over at Pet Blogs United posted this handy guide yesterday.  I just had to repost for everyone. Monday I'll set my three up on Skype.

Have a great weekend.

Some Time in Quiet Mediation

When I started blogging here several years ago, I was blogging for my own peace of mind. You see I wanted to purge part of clutter and chaos that, I felt, made me _____ (insert sad, mad, happy, confused, overjoyed, etc).
Then my first dachshund, of now a party of three, joined my wee little family. I found my posts were more his stubborn tenacity and less about my various moody moods.  Actually, I found I had less and less of those moody moods with Milo around.
Never did I think I'd ever have followers. Ever. Then Mr. Frankie and Lana came around, introducing me and mine to Blogville, a band of family and friends  who wanted to make a positive change in the world around us... to be there for each other during the ups and downs... to have fun and encourage each other.
Since then I've been overwhelmed watching and participating in everything... our little family of bloggers is amazing.  Each of you bring something special, something that makes is as a whole even more special to each other and the world.
After Remington's passing yesterday I saw person after person post their love and memories of a beloved pet and family member most of us had never met. Their outpouring of love to Mike and Beth was so strong I had to stop several times to catch my breath. There were memory after memory of times spent together and words shared... just like you'd share sitting on a summers day, sharing a glass of ice tea.  Our memories were so very strong, but they were made through words and pictures only.
Words and pictures only...
So if anyone ever questions whether the words they speak or if the memories they make through time spent together is important, let me reassure you they are... You can make a positive, loving difference to those about you and those you love and respect who are far away, just by your words and time.
Never stop being the loving people you are... we are humbled by you.

RIP Remington

DWM Quilt Raffle

WHN and the wonderful Doxies with Moxie emailed me a month ago regarding their quilt raffle, and it got lost in my emails so I forgot to post it when they asked me to (two days ago).  PLEASE PLEASE FEEL FREE to COPY and PASTE this information on one of your Blog Posts. We really hope they can raise enough to cover the adoption fee and to help the rescue group. Once you finish reading the letter from the Dachshies With Moxie...... please... CLICK HERE to find out MUCH more.

***********************************************************
Dear Blogville,

We the Dachsies With Moxie (Chip and Tasha) have a wonderful announcement!  Yes, you guessed- WHN and Dad have failed yet again at being foster parents and we wish to welcome His Snoopyness into the DWM pack officially!

Snoopy has thrived under Chip's tutelage and has warmed Tasha's heart, and has become Dad's BDF (Best Dachshund Furever).  He protects WHN while Dad is at work and keeps us on our toes.  He is very protective of his pack and his home, and does NOT like other peeps very much.  (He is NOT a biter but a very persistent barker)  The mail man fears him as does the UPS man.  Squirrels shudder as he passes by.  This is probably due to his background and we are working very hard at changing that for him and it will take a great deal of time.  He is currently enrolled in the beginner training class at PetSmart but he already knows that he has to repeat it- his anxiety is such that he barks the entire class and heeds the pawrents, but not the teacher. He is making great improvements that are easily seen each week, but his anxiety is such that he gets spooked too easily by shadows and off he goes on a barking tear.  At night, he and Chip sleep together in the Big Bed, guarding WHN from all enemies foreign and domestic, and he takes his duties at Dachshund Security, LLC seriously.  His allergies are under control, but all we need to find now is a training treat that will not make him sick to his stomach or cause an allergic reaction.

As Blogville is aware, we had to leave our home in Ohio and move to St Louis when Dad was hired by the MetroLink rail system.  While we have lived here for almost six months, the house in Ohio remains unsold, and we are paying rent and utilities here in Missouri and the mortgage and utiities in Ohio.  As such, WHN and Dad are having trouble coming up with the 275.00 needed for Snoopy's adoption fees and we are asking Blogville for help.

WHN is going to sponsor a raffle for an original Frankie Furter quilt, 45 x 45 inches in size, colors of your choosing and of course with a portrait of the winning Blogville resident on it.  Tickets will be 2.00 a piece, or six for ten dollars, via PayPal or the Chipin on the blog.  IF you prefer to send check, money order or cash, please email WHN at DachsiesWithMoxieMama AT gmail DOT com with the relevant info.

The raffle will run from March 1st through March 15th, with our beloved former Mayor, Frankie Furter Price, drawing the winner's name on the 17th of March.  The quilt will be sent to the winner by the end of April.

IF the raffle raises more money than is needed to pay Snoopy's adoption fees, the remaining funds will be donated to DRNA, Dachshund Rescue of North America.  DRNA has been a source of great joy in our lives- Ginger, Chip, Thai, Tasha and Snoopy have all come into our lives from this rescue, and we know that we are the rescuees, not the dachshunds.
