Just the life and times of a silly girl, her dachshunds and all things Southern!

This is Mom....

She is working very hard for her show this weekend... :(  We even have to remind her to feed us and give us belly rubs.  We don't like her work at times. :(

Can we come crash at your house til Sunday?

A Little Sniff Time, On the Farm

Mom is in Elizabethtown doing her little 'side job' this weekend. We won't get as much sniff time as we would like through next weekend. :( Hope your weekend is fantastic. Talk to you all Monday!!

So... I'm a Whovian. I'm Not Alone Am I?

Early this morning the Trailer for Doctor Who Series 7  was released... you know, if you go by the new series numbering.

I am having a brain-gasm!!!! The Daleks are back and there are 87 million of them. There are baby Weeping Angels... I guess they'd be called Sobbing Cherubs? Oh!! And Dinosaurs! Cleopatra!

August is the best month EV-AH! First we get a little Shark Week action on Discovery to help bridge the weeks until Doctor Who returns 8/25.

So don't bother me Saturday evenings starting 8/25. There can be no plans, no events, no catastrophes which would or could outweigh the importance of following the Doctor Who story arch and rooting through all the time travel paradigms and possible paradoxes.

If you are a Whovian, you understand.  If not... well, EXTERMINATE!!!

A New Award!

Back at the beginning of July, Miss Nola the Magnificent, gave me a great award.

Here are the rules of this award:

*Include the awards logo in a post or on your blog
*Share the love and link the person who awarded you
*Tell us 7 facts about yourself
*Nominate 7 other fabulous bloggers
*Link your nominees to your post and leave them a comment on their blog, letting them know they've won!

As this is kinda a 'girly' award as Milo said, Dixie has agreed to give facts about herself!
  1. I never will walk in front of you. Mom believes I was abused by kickings and stuff like that so, I always walk behind my owners.
  2. I LOVE veggies and fruits.  I don't beg for beef or pork, but if you have an apple I will be all up in your grill to get some!
  3. I am a groomer. I love grooming anyone who will let me groom them. I especially love grooming faces. :)
  4. I am sneaky. I will bark and cause a fuss so I can steal the boys food or bones when they run off to see what I'm barking about.
  5. I love the outside.  I would prefer to stay outside all day long... mommy won't let me though. :(
  6. I don't like to be picked up. In order to do so you have to put your arm down and pat on the forearm to let me know you want to pick me up.  I will then crawl up and put my front paws on your forearm so you can scoop me up.
  7. I sleep four paws up! I take up more space than you can imagine for such a little girl.

I pass this award on to:

How to Make and Can Vanilla Pears

(Sorry... this isn't a post about Milo, Newby or Dixie... and they are mad...)

We have a HUGE pear tree which is producing more fruit than I nor the birds can consume.  So I looked around and found a delicious recipe.  I wanted to share with you.

This is my first canning of fruits so I was a bit nervous.  But I have to admit, right about now I'm thanking my great-grandmother, who raised me from an infant, for letting me watch her can stuff from the garden!

Vanilla Pears  (makes 7 pints and a little left over to enjoy right now with ice cream)
12 cups of pears, peeled, quartered and deseeded
9 cups of water
5 Tbsp of Vanilla extract
2 cups of sugar

Combine all the ingredients in a large pan and bring to a boil for 5 minutes.  If your pears are a bit under-ripe you can boil a couple extra minutes until al dente.

Then you water can these bad boys.

  1. Sanitize your jars. My dishwasher has a sanitize setting so I simply run them through the dishwasher while I'm preparing the stuff to can.
  2. Fill a small pan with water and put in your jar rings and jar seals. They do not need to boil, but you need to let sit in hot, non-boiling water, until ready to process your filled jars.
  3. Fill your canning pot full of water, at least enough to have 1-2" of water over your jars, and bring to a vigorous boil.  Remember to put the lid on your canner as it makes your water boil faster and more vigorously.
  4. Fill your jars with fruit -- use a jar funnel, its less messy -- packing the fruit down in and adding syrup until you have 1/2" of head space at the top of each jar.  Clean any spills off with a clean cloth.
  5. Place a jar seal on top of each jar and turn the jar ring around until just finger tight. Don't over tighten, you can do that after they have canned.
  6. After you have filled your jars, place them one by one in the boiling canning water.  Return to a hard boil and process in the canning water for 25 minutes.
  7. After 25 minutes carefully remove each jar, allow them a few minutes to cool down, then tighten the ring around the jar.
  8. A correctly processed jar will have no 'give' on the top.  You can press down and it doesn't pop back.  If any did not process correctly, place in the fridge and use within the week.
:) Great-Grandmom would be proud, eh?
