Today Corbin has asked all of his blogville friends to help draw awareness to the Pitty Cause. I've been roaming all over the posts of our friends today... so encouraged by all the wonderful things I've read.
I have never met a pit bull, nor do I know any pit bulls personally, but I do know people.. And its people who make dogs, cats, antelopes, hyenas, other people, etc, bad... Want a bad person, treat it bad all it's life... want a bad dog, treat it bad all it's life...
I know there is legislation out there, in many areas and countries, that would ban Pit Bulls from being owned at all. I hope that the only legislation that gets looked at is the one that says "if you hurt an animal in any way you are gonna pay... gonna give up your money to help shelters, gonna give up your time to work with organizations to help animals and gonna give up your life because you're gonna go to prison." That is the only legislation worth anything....
I'm glad we, citizens of Blogville, have so many Pit Bull friends... and I'm glad so many Pit Bulls have friends like the citizens of Blogville.

Pit bull bites as a percentage of number of dogs owned are *drastically* lower than other popular breeds like German Shepherds and Rottweilers. Plus, any short-haired, muscular dog gets called a pit bull when there's an attack. A group of boxers near me attacked recently, and they were all called pit bulls in the media at first even though they CLEARLY weren't. Most of the pit bull reputation is just hysteria.
Well said Mom, Dixie and Milo!! Today has been a great educational tool for everyone and we especially like statement about treating any being bad and they will become bad out of self defense.
Hugs
Madi and Mom
Hehehehe...oh dat is familiar but I couldn't say it betters myself. Peoples should be banned not breeds. I thinks I would makes a most excellent president.
Nows, I must say I likes how some hoomans stand behind anonymity to comment. Nows if you not knows what you talking bout then hush. No one knows what provokes an animal and I doubt dat little commenter knows what happened. They should comes to my blog;) Da media is to blame furs most of da mass hysteria when it comes to pitties.

Well, hi there! I'm Mayzie and I'm a pit bull-type doggie! I'm awfully happy to meet you and I just wanna say thanks for standing up for doggies that look like me.
And please don't pay any attention to comments from peoples that just wanna believes what the media tells 'em. My Brudder Ranger was attacked once by a Shepherd mix but that didn't make our local news. My mom understands how hard it is to change your mind after hearing bad stories over and over. But she hopes that peoples will take the time to do their OWN research at places like the National Canine Research Council (http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/) to learn the truth abouts why dog bites/attacks happen, rather than just relying on the media (http://www.aspca.org/fight-animal-cruelty/advocacy-center/animal-laws-about-the-issues/pit-bull-bias-in-the-media.aspx).

Mayzie
Hi-Thanks so much for participating in today's Pittie Post Celebration!
Incidents like the one mentioned are tragic, but they are certainly not limited to Pitbulls. Any dog or cat - even the most loving pet in the world - can be become aggressive when faced with the unpredictable nature of a child or infant. This is the reason why almost every humane organization, child welfare agency, pediatric and medical association, etc. agree that children should NEVER be left alone with ANY animal EVER.
Tragically, these kinds of attacks happen across the board with all breeds of dogs and cats, but the media only focuses on attacks involving pitties.
I'm so glad you joined in for Pitty Post Day! It's so great to meet you! I agree that any dog attack is tragic, like Mr or Mrs No Name mentioned above. However, recently in my area a Jack Russell tragically and fatally attacked a 2 year old child. There was a short area for the attack in the middle of the news paper, just like the two chocolate labs who attacked a man and sent him to the emergency room with breaks and bites. However, the Pit Bull Attack, that did not kill anyone, was all over the news papers and television news stations for weeks. The media feeds on the frenzy of their watchers and unfortunately, dogs like me are the ones who pay the price. Educate yourself before you blame a breed Mr or Mrs No Name.
Like the others, I'm sorry I soap boxed your comment area! But I really appreciate you joining in. And it's people like Mr or Mrs No Name that need to read all of these blogs and all of the wonderful, positive things that the majority of pit bulls do. Because WE are the breed.

We want soup here too. Mom and Dad are soup lovers, me, I'm just a foodie I don't discriminate!
Mom says I'm their Doxie reincarnated into a Feline. When he was a live he ate any and everything my human sis dropped on the floor.
